Forward-looking leadership

Another campaign update lands on our newsdesk from Labour Party leadership candidate John McDonnell.

McDonnell eulogises the Labour Representation Committee  conference, which kickstarted the John4Leader bandwagon by endorsing his candidacy. (McDonnell also happens to be Chair of the LRC, but only cynics would suggest that detracts from the significance of their decision.)

He quotes approvingly “the most moving speech of the conference” from Mary Partington, a student, who said: “I fully support John McDonnell in his leadership campaign. I wasn’t lucky enough to be around in the 1970s and I’ve been waiting all my life for this.”

For all of those not lucky enough to be around in the 1970s, this was how the decade ended.

I’m sure life at university’s got tougher since the introduction of tuition fees but what must things be like for people to have been “waiting all my life” for a doomed hard left leadership bid.

Surely there’s still some sex and drinking going on.
